Judith Silver

Judith Silver began composing Jewish songs – mostly for harmony singing – around 2000; many of these appear on her recordings and in her songbook, Jewish Songs for Harmony Singing. Her music, though eclectic, reflects an ever-deepening connection with Judaism.  Developing and sharing her songs, and learning and sharing those of other composers within and beyond the Jewish community, are among her greatest passions.

Four of Judith’s pieces received recognition at Shalshelet International Music Festivals: Gesher and Berikh Rahamana in 2010 and Angel Blessing and ‘Oseh Shalom in 2016.  Those who attended the March 24th lecture on Jewish women in music heard a recording of Gesher.

In 2020 Judith composed Eshet Hayil (“A Woman of Valor,” text from the Book of Proverbs), specially commissioned by Kolot HaLev for our 2020 Annual concert. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were not able to perform her beautiful piece at that time. At last, Kolot Halev will introduce an excerpt of Eshet Hayil in a new video.

Judith will be co-presenting Jewels in the Crown on May 23rd to share her knowledge and insights.
