Jewish Music: Many Languages, One Heart

Jewish Music through the Centuries: A Musical Celebration of France, England and Italy

A Smithsonian Associates 3-Session Daytime Course

Part 2 of 3

Kolot haLev will bring to the United States audience a concert honoring English Jewish choral heritage as Dr. Tasat discusses musical examples from the mid 1700’s until our days.

Musical excerpts composed by G. F. Haendel or Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and lesser known musicians such as Emanuel Abraham Aguilar (1824-1904,) Michael Leoni (1751–Jamaica, 1797) or Julius (Israel Lazarus) Mombach (1813 –1880) born in Germany and regarded by many as “the most important of the composers of synagogue music in the Anglo-Jewish tradition of the 19th Century.”

Come listen to musical compositions that reflect traditional modes of synagogue music, Spanish and Portuguese music originated in Amsterdam and Germany as well as English folk songs and contemporary classical themes.

In addition we will include contemporary Jewish music by Judith Silver, Julian Dawes and Stephen Glass among others.

With the purchase of the 3-session course you are entitled to a discounted ticket for Kolot HaLev’s Annual concert dedicated to English Jewish Music.
