Jewish Music: Many Languages, One Heart

Jewish Music through the Centuries: A Musical Celebration of France, England and Italy

A Smithsonian Associates 3-Session Daytime Course

Part 3 of 3

Throughout the centuries and especially after the expulsion of the Jews from the Iberian Peninsula, beginning in 1492 C.E., the Italian city-states received Jews from all over the Mediterranean region.  So welcoming was this land that Jews renamed it I-Tal-Yah (Heb., Island of God’s Dew.)

The history of Jewish music in Italy is long, fascinating, and filled with contradictions.

Hazzan (Cantor) Dr. Ramón Tasat, will present a lecture on this intriguing history.

Come and discover how the music of church and synagogue influenced each other.  Listen to beautiful renditions of works by Salomone Rossi,  Benedetto Marcello, Cristiano Giuseppe Lidarti, Michelle Bolaffi,  Alessandro Stradella, Federico Consolo, Gioachino Rossini  and Giuseppe Verdi.

With the purchase of the 3-session course you are entitled to a discounted ticket for Kolot HaLev’s Annual concert dedicated to English Jewish Music.
