Shirat HaNefesh Congregation
North Chevy Chase Christian Church,
8814 Kensington Parkway, Chevy Chase
Shirat HaNefesh is one of the rare congregations whose services include the involvement of a Cantor together with a choir that motivates the community to sing exploring prayer in a transcendental way.
On Shabbat Hol haMo’ed Pesah Shirat haNefesh invites you to a rare occasion:
Pray with Kolot HaLev and Hazzan Ramón Tasat and an array of talented musicians, as they recreate musical compositions ranging from traditional to contemporary. You will hear compositions evocative of the sounds of the Opera and oratorio as they celebrate the immensity of God through the texts of the Psalms. They originate in Bordeaux, Modzitz, London, Amsterdam and cities from the Middle East, geographical diversity and musical styles that coexist in the music and diversity of the Jewish people.
Emil Jonas, Felix Mendelssohn, Jacques F. Halevy or Samuel Naumbourg, among others, were remarkable musicians that captured the meaning of Hebrew texts in ways that written words alone cannot. These composers’ approach to God brings closer to our consciousness mystery, fear, awe, and unspeakable beauty; longing; pain and passion.
Come pray with us. We cannot wait to share all these musical and poetic jewels with you.
Be shir ve kol todah
Hazzan Dr. Ramón Tasat
